RIP John McAffee, Was He A Creep or A Visionary? - Perhaps Both

in mcaffee •  3 years ago

I'm sure you've heard by now that McAffee was found dead in his cell today, they are calling it a suicide.

He was a controversial figure, a freedom fighter, a drug user, a rebel...but before you knew his name he was a British-American computer programmer and businessman. And Later.. McAfee was a political activist. He unsuccessfully sought the Libertarian Party nomination for President of the United States in 2016 and 2020.

HIs last tweet below. Although he also retweeted a Father's Day Message from his Daughter.

In a democracy, power is given not taken.
But it is still power.
Love, compassion, caring have no use for it. But it is fuel for greed, hostility, jealousy...
All power corrupts.
Take care which powers you allow a democracy to wield.

-John McAffe, 6/18/2021 4 days before his death.

Hey Everyone,

Seems a lot of people in crypto loved McAffe, I in turn have really mixed feelings about him. While I loved his thoughts on power and freedom and the rebel in him. I also disliked many aspects of him and by today's standards maybe he should be viewed much like Jeffrey Epstein. A rich powerful man who surrounded himself with extremely young girls from poor families.

John McAffe dies 6/23/2021, by suicide, reports say..

In any case his death, like his life leaves us with many questions about what is right, what is wrong and how power and wealth is obtained, used and where it leads. I don't hate wealthy people, I love success, but I do wonder about men who find pleasure in luring young, powerless women, to their wealth. If they are of age, it's nothing more than a life choice, if they aren't. That changes everything.

In conclusion outside of Hollywood Movies and our oddly defined culture most people are a mix of good and bad and outrageous people even more so.

John mentioned many times he would never commit suicide and said if he died, it wouldn't be suicide and on the other hand it isn't hard to imagine he wouldn't want to be returned to the US. I tend to think he was a fighter and wonder who he paid to fake his death so he could carry on with the rest of his life.

Well, he was a maverick, to be sure. And he was a Libertarian and freedom mattered to him. At 75, with the news of being extradited to the US with a life sentence in prison to look forward to? It's not unthinkable that he decided that he just didn't want that... and that the "I'll never commit suicide" statements was his "insurance policy" to guarantee that people would continue to rail against the system in his name...

Then again, maybe he's on a plane to Argentina, even as we speak... I wonder if we'll ever know?

In a way, I kind of hope we never do know.

What we learn from what happened to John McAffee is, that in life you have to have balance in everything you do, since life then takes its toll. Regards.

My first thought. WTF? I had to search around for some time because on twitter it looked like people were joking... So he really is dead. Well, officially. I don't even know what to say about him. I do agree with your post though. That photo with the girls "bath salts" and gun? Whew...

The man was living a very happy life and he said he would never commit suicide, so why did he commit suicide, that's a really big question. There was a curiosity to know.

I have just known about him in last night. Is it really a suicide?? Many are in confusion.

Good luck sir @whatsup 👌☺️

I read the news today... and I had trouble believing it. It just does not sound right to me. Why commit suicide because of extradition. El Chapo did not even commit suicide after his extradition and sentencing. I think there is more to the McAfee story that has been left out.

The behavior of each human being (good and bad) is recorded in their conscience and they will always be there remembering the bad behavior and that conscience is the worst executioner, even if it climbs to the top.

It was bad to hear the news. But I don't think he committed suicide. Since he had said before that he would not commit suicide, why did he do it.His life was good. It could be politically motivated.

RIP to that guy @whatsup but I do think he killed himself because he knows the troubled he caused himself.
