Week 29 (March 2019)

Welcome to Meanwhile in Seattle. In this series I post images and write about anything related to what's going on in Seattle, Washington and the surrounding area. It's a chance for you to catch a glimpse of the daily life out here. Sometimes these posts will be general to all of the area and sometimes it may be more personal, like what I did on a weekend out here. Either way, I hope you enjoy seeing a different perspective on this area that I call home.

We're back again with another Fly Tipping in Seattle. This is becoming a regular series now! I'll have to give it some thought, but maybe this fits better as it's own series than part of Meanwhile in Seattle? I don't know 🤔

Well, if you missed the previous posts, here is part 1 and here is part 2.

Now onto part 3 below...

According to Seattle.gov

It is considered illegal dumping when any junk, garbage or debris is left on public property—including roadsides, open streets, and paved alleys. The items most commonly reported are TVs and computers; furniture; paints, solvents and other potentially hazardous liquids; tires; garbage, yard waste, and construction debris.

Accumulation of rotten, decaying garbage attracts rats and other disease-carrying creatures. Dumping hazardous waste puts people’s health at risk and can harm the environment. Illegal dumping can be associated with other forms of illegal activity. If tolerated, it sends a message to violators that it is allowable to dump garbage in your neighborhood or community.

Seattle Public Utilities budgeted $670,000 to clean up illegally dumped garbage in 2018.
