Gather the Ingredients: To begin, make sure you have all the necessary ingredients. You will need:

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

1 egg, lightly beaten

2 cloves of garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated. This mixture will form the base of our delicious meatballs.

Shape the Meatballs: Using your hands, take small portions of the meatball mixture and roll them into bite-sized balls. Aim for consistency in size to ensure even cooking. Place the formed meatballs on a plate or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Cook the Meatballs: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and fragrant. Carefully add the meatballs to the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd them. Cook the meatballs in batches if necessary. Brown the meatballs on all sides, turning gently with tongs or a spatula to ensure even cooking.

Prepare the Tomato Sauce: While the meatballs are browning, it's time to prepare the tomato sauce. In a separate saucepan, combine the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, sugar, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir well to incorporate the flavors. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium-low heat, allowing it to cook for about 10 minutes to develop a rich taste.

Simmer the Meatballs in Tomato Sauce: Once the meatballs are browned, carefully transfer them to the tomato saucepan, submerging them in the sauce. Reduce the heat to low and let the meatballs simmer in the sauce for approximately 20 minutes. This will infuse the meatballs with the flavors of the sauce, creating a delightful combination.

Test for Doneness: To ensure that the meatballs are thoroughly cooked, use a meat thermometer to check their internal temperature. Ground beef should reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). Once they've reached the desired temperature, you can remove them from the heat.

Serve and Enjoy: Transfer the meatballs to a serving dish, spooning some of the tomato sauce over them. Garnish with fresh parsley or grated Parmesan cheese for added flavor and visual appeal. Serve the meatballs with pasta, rice, or crusty bread to complete the meal.

Store Leftovers: If you have any leftovers, let the meatballs cool down to room temperature before storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can be kept for up to 3 days. Reheat them gently on the stovetop or in the microwave when ready to enjoy again.
