CAN GOOD THINGS COME FROM TRIAL BY MEDIA?steemCreated with Sketch.

There's a huge rush of claims about sexual harrassment and worse, and from every kind of media there is.
I don't like this, but I sincerely hope that something will come out of it, apart from ruined reputations and insincere words of apology.

Why this didn't happen before is because people who should have spoken out had decided to keep quiet, this includes people in industries and organisations now under scrutiny (and that's a lot of industries and organisations) and the reason behind the silence was the "understanding" that this was going on. A bit like locking the field gate after the horse has bolted.

Unless children, and especially teens, are taught what is acceptable as regards sexual contact of any kind, and what isn't, then it may well happen again, as life is full of victims and perpetrators.

It's even sadder that the clarity between what is acceptable and what isn't, becomes fuzzier by the minute and that shouldn't be so. I'm afraid it is the very media we all love and are very used to, that is mostly to blame.

Perhaps the best way to tell kids about how to protect themselves is first to explain what exactly is acceptable and what is unsavoury, and then explain how long it takes to develop a good reputation in life, and how very quickly it is to destroy one.

There is no easy answer but I can quite understand how many people are fast becoming disillusioned about modern life.

The talk about 'Birds and Bees' with kids is becoming increasingly urgent. Maybe the focus should change a little, birds and bees don't really have reputations.

Recently we visited our aunt. She is the last out of my mothers family, who is still alive. Somehow we touched the topic of how children come into the world and my brother gave a memory. He said, that my parents told him, they bought him at the market place.

Me and my niece were kind of amused and aggravated at the same time. I turned to my 84 year old aunt and said: Aunt, that is nonsense. Children should be taught reality. That a baby grows in the womb of it's mother and comes out of it after nine months.

She did not agree.

What can I say? To some degree people stay influenced by what they themselves had been taught and raised. I find it depends on how you influence the people around you and what you know today and not have been irritated in the past by.

Do you wish the media to act responsible? I doubt that will happen ... maybe when you search for articles and editors who DO have a sense of dignity you will have your peace with that. ?

Thank you for reading. Interesting you should post what your 84 year old aunt said, I think the same as you inasmuchas that it does depends on the influence you have around you and what you know today. The editors and writers who I already know have a sense of dignity, will not be included in my rail against the media, as I know I can rely on their sensibilities. Just as I rely upon yours.

Always a pleasure to stopp by. I have though overdosed myself today. But still in a good mood. I had plenty of good talks today. Got to know new users and had just splendid conversations either on the blog or in a private chat. Gives me my faith back that there are so much fantastic people on earth who are sensitive, sensible & walking around with a really good heart. I wish I could throw a party where I can invite them all!

I echo your thoughts. Love parties. I don't know how you have private chats! Let me know as this may keep me going with some of the wonderful people on here (including you, naturally) I am taking a week away. It's all part of my experiment and shall be back next weekend. Have a good week and don't overthink! Best Wishes JV

Go to this website: https://steemit.chat
and open an account. I recommend to use the same user name as in steemit. I did it wrong so people do not recognize me with my name over there. It is "Erika Reglin-Hormann". When you search me in the search window, you can open up a private conversation with me. It's really good to have and to come in contact on the open chats, as well. Have a good week! Best wishes to you, too!

I finally got onto steemit chat and hope we can talk there soon. x
