    Well we don't know for sure yet. It appears to be a risk factor but we will need more research to confirm.

      Correlation is not causation. Theory #1 is the most likely explanation -- both are caused by a common factor that produces impairment of nerve function. I found that B12 supplementation improved my hearing!
