Chronic osteomyelitis remains nowadays a difficult problem which must be combined surgical and medical treatment. An ambispective and descriptive study was conducted, whose objective was to determine the response to surgical treatment combined with antibiotic therapy as bacteriological isolations in patients with chronic osteomyelitis treated at the Maracaibo Coromoto Hospital, period 2012-2014, who were performed cleanings diaphysectomies of bone segments committed to obtaining biopsy specimens and cultures with medical monitoring by consultation outside of Infectious Diseases and Orthopedic Surgery. At the end of a year the data were collected. Six female patients, 16 men were studied for a total of 22 patients. 40.91% presented chronic osteomyelitis of tibia, femur, 31.8%, 13.64% at the hip (proximal femur) and the 9, 09% at humerus. The 50% of patients had made one surgical cleaning, the 13.64%, more than one surgical cleaning, with remission of the infection. 13.64% were performed amputation and 9.09%, disarticulation. After analyzing the results it can be concluded that the association between surgical and medical treatment; antibiotics according to bacterial isolation in tissue sample obtained after the surgical cleaning bone, has proven effective for the control of this pathology.
