Fear & Alcohol

"Medscape" illustrates vividly the cognitive dissonance gap in this whole pandemic scare.

Earlier today they sent out an email with the shaming title, "What Are You Doing About Vaccine-Hesitant Colleagues?" as if physicians are major carriers of the virus. Later today they posted this article about the rise of alcoholism in the U.S. over the last 15 months. Can they not see the correlation between the fear that they perpetuate and self-medication to blunt that fear?

Before you jump on me for not saying what you think I say, note that I am personally aware of how devastating the virus can be, especially in high risk populations. However, I'm not a mask Nazi, and I try to follow the science, not the hysteria.

Get up, get out, breathe deep the healing air, and soak up the sunshine.

"A 2020 survey study showed an increase of alcohol intake during the pandemic, with 1 day more of consumption per month by 75% of American adults. Women increased their alcohol intake by 39% compared with 2019. Younger women in particular are driving the higher mortality rates for alcoholic liver disease."
