Mentality actually means something, it means "of the mind", as in, memes, the second replicator in Darwinian evolution. Humans are specialized in memetic intelligence, the reason we have technology. Memes is to technology what proteins are to genes, blueprints. Code. The memetic capacity of humans is in the neocortex, which means "new rind", that is where your ideas live (or, where ideas have managed to colonize you, depending on how you look at it. ) Then there is the older parts of the brain, like, the reptilian brain (you know how some people "are reptiles", I think that is meant metaphorically for that some people act inhumane. ) Since reptiles obviously have executive function (they can execute behaviour), humans obviously use the reptilian brain for executing decisions. At the same time, it is obviously not memetic, i.e., mental. The mind does not govern itself, "mental disorders" are a religious myth. "Generatio spontanea" for mental illness is complete nonsense, Psychiatry, the study of "mental disorders", is not science, it is a fiction to legitimize over-ruling people's free will.
What is some proof that executive function is not "mental"?
