o0oh I may look into that. I was looking up stuff online and all it ever suggests is coping skills and ear plugs. haha

Yeah that's reactive to the same mental pattern that is bothering you. In almost 100% of the cases your responses are programmed by your subconscious because they offer something of use. The conscious mind may not always understand how it may be so, but if one goes down deep enough, they may uncover the precise reasons and then reprogram the reaction.

Well I know the first thing that started it was my father tapping and he was horrifically abusive to me. I always thought that may be an important connection.

Then repetitive sounds might have been "anchored" with the bad feelings associated with abuse. It's re-programmable for sure.

There are few recorded cases, but cognitive behavioural therapy might be a good option to look into. It's already a huge step forward to be aware of a connection like that.
