Let me comment on this whole, "Let's get a business mentor" movement.
These are the five most common mistakes:
Get a self-proclaiming business mentor who never had any other businesses, yet he is teaching business. This was WRONG, because they usually don't have any hands-on experience.
Get a millionaire mentor who is too far ahead of you. This was WRONG, because they are talking a totally different business language as they can show you how to scale the business from $100M to $200M while you are just trying to make the first $10k.
Get a mentor who is not precisely doing the thing you are trying to do. This was WRONG, because even though somebody might know how to trade crude oil, his knowledge might not apply to growth hacking.
Get just one mentor. This was WRONG, because nobody knows everything in all areas of business.
Your mentor doesn't listen to any advice from you because he doesn't feel you are on his level. This is WRONG, because once you get to certain level of business, your mentor might learn some things from you as well. There may be things that you mastered but he didn't. You might want to reciprocate (and you should) by adding value to his business. With regular, vertical, mentor-mentee relationships it is usually impossible to achieve your desired results.
What is the best solution then? Get several mentors who are slightly ahead of you and are doing things that you are trying to achieve. Once you get to their level, get help from more advanced people in business. This is why Peer 2 Peer Business Mentorship is the FASTEST and MOST EFFECTIVE method of mentorship. It is not entirely vertical and helps the entire group of people in the community to grow their business together and also allows them to help mentor each other.
