Scientism and the issue of consciousness.

The real problem with scientism really comes with the reality of consciousness.

We have no scientific measure for consciousness. It's an experience.

From a strictly scientific perspective, we know that conciseness is a real thing; but, we can't find it. We have millions of brain scans from thousands of species of animals. We can't find the part of the brain that, if you damage it, your consciousness goes away.

Consciousness also can't be an illusion.

We even play with the word "consciousness" in weird ways. People who are asleep are also still conscious. They're just not conscious of the real world. They're conscious of what their brains are producing.

People who are on drugs are conscious even if they're seeing or hearing things that aren't there.

You could literally be an AI in a simulation reading this right now and, despite everything in your universe being artificially constructed, you are conscious of what you're doing right now.

I'm sure that science will eventually discover the reality of consciousness; but, we're pretty far from it now.
