Solcial: Information security and privacy

At the moment, social networks are essentially a huge database with a wide variety of information about hundreds of millions of people around the world. In the past few years, many of the personal data of users have become available to everyone. The more a person communicates on social networks, the more information about him can be collected without any difficulty. That is why the controversial assertion that “70% of the intelligence services collect information from open sources” today acquires a completely plausible connotation.

In the last 5 years, the topic of information security in social networks has attracted a lot of attention. This is understandable: networks are increasingly open to the outside world, there have been cases of leakage of personal data, user accounts are easily hacked, and the network administration has access to any information. But all this is only an external part, which lies on the surface and which the press writes about. What else is hidden from us?

Big problems for users are created by the leakage of personal data through the fault of the network, which has already happened more than once. One of the largest leaks of personal data of 77 million users of the PlayStation Network in April 2011 can be considered, among other things, there was a leak of payment data.

Even more serious problems can be caused by hacking into individual accounts and gaining access to all the personal information of an individual user, if the target of the attackers is a specific person. It is not difficult to do this today. Motivation of attackers can be very different, from hacking the accounts of officials of a certain company for the purpose of industrial espionage to personal goals. So, for example, marriage lawyers in the United States are already recording every fifth divorce due to social networks: spouses get access to the partner’s profile, find correspondence there, and as a result, this leads to a divorce.

However, the biggest threat is that a fairly large group of people have access to all personal information, and they can view it at any time, even if a person has deleted something from the network. Firstly, these are employees of the social network itself: they have access to databases that contain all the information, as well as special tools for logging into user accounts. Secondly, law enforcement agencies also have access to information. All this is quite logical: social network employees cannot but have access, this is their job, and law enforcement officers catch criminals in networks, but this does not eliminate the danger of transferring data to third parties, and often such data can be entire psychological portraits or confidential information.

Recently, users have less and less trust in social networks and are increasingly beginning to filter information that they are ready to entrust to networks, give false information, or are generally removed from the network, but even deletion does not give confidence: information is often stored on the company's servers and can be used in the future.

However, with the advent of blockchain technology, the situation is changing radically: decentralized social networks are being created, where we can not only register and communicate, fully control our accounts and independently regulate access to any information that we share, but also, if we wish, earn money on it.
Solcial is a decentralized social network that allows users to earn fair rewards for their work. Solcial promotes freedom of speech by allowing users to interact without fear of being banned or censored.
All user content is stored in IPFS and is available through our own P2P layer. Therefore, Social does not rely on censored servers or gateways. And all operations related to tokens (mining, trading, etc.) are performed on the Solana blockchain.

Advantages of Solcial compared to centralized social networks:

  1. There is no central authority that decides what is censored or allowed. This is the community that manages and manages the social network through its DAO and foundation. Any holder of an SLC token can vote on the network for the future decisions of the social network.
  2. Some type of content is not a free speech issue and is illegal (such as child porn, Nazi posts or terrorism) and will be moderated by the community.
  3. Everything is encrypted in Solcial, without any backdoors reading your private messages. You can create an anonymous account and use it however you like.
  4. If you are a content creator, you can now accumulate cryptocurrencies and increase your actual market capitalization. Anyone can join Solcial and monetize whatever they want.
