Wild times in Michigan.

No, not the Lions, but chaos within the state GOP.

One faction alleges that they removed and replaced state Chair Kristina Karamo at a recent meeting, while she claims their meeting was illegitimate and any actions taken at have no force.

Karamo was challenged because some see her as harmful to the party. She believes that Michigan was stolen from Trump in 2020 and that the January 6 insurrection was a false-flag operation staged by Antifa. She was the GOP nominee for Secretary of State last year and got trounced by 14 points but refused to concede. She has also said that building party unity is not her job, and said good riddance to those who refuse to go along with her agenda. Presumably, this is typical MAGA v. RINO silliness.

All that would be acceptable, but she has alienated donors, and the MIGOP appears to be essentially broke heading into a presidential election year. In desperation she has filed a lawsuit to claim party ownership of its former headquarters building so it can be sold to pay of overdue debt, although she herself has stated that the party does not own the building.

So earlier this month a portion of the state's committee members met and overwhelmingly voted to oust her from the state Chairmanship. They claim to have properly called the meeting and have had a quorum. Karamo claims the meeting was not legitimately called.

She hosted her own meeting a few days later, with, it appears, greater attendance, and won a vote to remain Chair. But those who voted against her at the first meeting claim this meeting was illegitimate because she was no longer chair, so she couldn't call a meeting and couldn't have a vote retain her in a position she'd lost.

Her opponents have now filed suit to defend their removal of her. For now, at least, the Republican National Committee is staying out of it.

So far I can't find enough detail in any news report to form an opinion on which side has the better case. Until the courts rule, the party is in chaos. And given her past refusals to accept defeat, it may remain in chaos if the courts rule against her
