When you have problems with the Internet before calling and waiting for operators to answer you, who often do not know what they are doing, follow these simple steps that will help you solve connection and wiring problems.
The Modem does not turn on, it can be due to the following causes:
Defective plug: Check that the plug is working by connecting the modem to another power point to discard this.
The voltage transformer is damaged: many times these transformers are damaged and do not deliver the proper voltage for the equipment to work, look for another transformer that delivers the voltage required by the modem and test the equipment. If once tested the above the modem is still not lit it is very likely that this burned and there is no choice but to buy another or take technical service.
If the modem turns on but you do not have an internet signal, you can try the following steps:
First check the status of the modem lights:
- Power: Indicates whether the equipment is on or not.
- Link (Internet): Evidence if there is an Internet connection.
- ADSL (DSL): Used to indicate if there is data transmission and works blinking.
- LAN: when it is on, it indicates that there is a wired network connection, if it is flashing, data is being transmitted.
- WLAN: Indicates that a wireless network is connected.
Possible situations:
All the lights are on and they work correctly but you do not have internet: a possible cause is that the network adapter is disabled in your computer, for Windows it verifies in network connections depending on the version, if you see it in gray it is because it is not enabled , right click and choose the enable option. If you use Wi-fi verify that you are effectively connected to your own wi-fi and have this option enabled on the computer, many times the computer disconnects from the network and takes other free networks that do not have data.
If the link light is not active (RED): Follow the steps below:
- Turn off the modem.
- Verify that both the modem and telephone cables are properly connected to the ADLS filter.
- Check that the ADSL filters are installed and in good condition.
- Verify that the telephone line where you have the service associated has a tone.
- Connect the modem directly to a previously verified socket.
Fixed ADSL light: It is due to a transmission problem and data is not being transmitted, turn off the modem and wait 10 minutes to turn it on, if you see that you recover the signal but after a few minutes you have no internet signal and light appears fixed there is no choice but to contact the service provider.
Link light and ADSL do not light: The problem can be in the modem, some filter or the wiring, check the cables as we explained in the previous point.
The lights are OK but the LAN lights in red: Check the network cable that goes from the PC to the modem, it may be loose or damaged.
WLAN in red: If you have a router connected to the modem, disconnect it. Connect the computer or the laptop directly to the modem, in this way faults are ruled out with the Wi-Fi signal of both the modem (in case it is Wi-Fi) and the router. If this way you can get an internet signal it is possible that the wi-fi card of the modem or the router will be damaged.
