So its Sunday night and you're at home on the internet. Have you voted yet? No? Do you feel an "urgh" around going through the various confusing ballot propositions and minor candidates?
It's actually quite simple. You don't have to vote for everything on the ballot; just focus on the things you care about the most.
Here are things for your consideration (in order of importance):
It doesn't matter where you live in the US, you should vote to keep election deniers out of office. It turns out the fabric of democracy is held together by norms of propriety alone and the events of 2020-2021 showed us that those norms can be completely wrecked in a disturbingly short time. It's vital that people who willingly destroy the machinery of elections be kept out of office, particularly out of the office of the secretary of state, which oversee elections in each state.
If you live in SF, you have a chance to have a significant impact on housing supply by voting yes on Prop D and no on Prop E. Prop D streamlines approvals processes for many kinds of affordable / social housing, preventing city officials from rejecting affordable housing developments just because they feel like it. It also broadens the definition of affordable housing to include middle income housing, enabling more people to benefit.
