Paul in his letter to the Romans talks about how to offer spiritual worship: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect". Romans 12:2.
The bible teach us about renewing ourselves in the spirit to discern the things of God. Discern means to sift, separate. Renewing ourselves in the spirit means to think progressively: "think progressively to discern". The parables of jesus can only be understood in the light of progressive thought or gift of knowledge: "Then he opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures", Luke 24:45. The goal of the progressive thinking are the eternal and immutable truths.

God works in us, in our lives through his gifts. The will of God is expressed in his gifts. To know the will of God is to know the spiritual gifts. God is the wisdom itself: "His works are perfect", Deuteronomy 32,4. Thomas Aqunas explains that just as we receive the light from the sun, we receive the spiritual gifts from God.
Paul teaches us how to recognize the spiritual gifts or charisms: good, wise (acceptable) and perfect. Every action that meets these conditions is a spiritual gits.
The spiritual gifts are good, that is, they are edifying, progressive, just, benevolent, they tend to improvement, to increase, in resume: the spiritual gifts are way.
The spiritual gifts are perfections, we cannot attribute imperfections to God. Say that something is perfect, that is to say that it is completely done, that is it mature. Something is perfect when it cannot be improve or surpassed in its own genre. For example, justice is not a perfection, the equity overcomes, completes justice. But also, mercy completes equity. Mercy cannot be improved in the genre of giving and receiving. The mercy is a spiritual gift, the mercy is good, perfect and acceptable.
When we seek the good and the perfect, we are living the spiritual gifts inherit from God, we are thinking progressively, and through this renewed mentality we bear the fruits of the spirit: "love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control", Galatians 5:22-23. Paul asks us to leave the apparent goods and to look for the true spiritual goods.
