Mindfulness Meditation used to relax my body ready for sleeping

I am really getting into my Mindfulness Meditation, I have been told to try it by my Rheumatogist to help with my Chronic Pain but can't quite get it to help but it definitely helps to keep me calmer, helps me relax and gives me 20 minutes to myself to sort my head out. My head has so much going on, its so busy that using this Meditation it seems to put everything in its place and leave my brain feeling a lot less busy.

I have a hard time trying to sleep so I have been using this as night to calm myself down, relax my body so I am able to sleep. I take my pain medication, wrap my knee is pain patches then lie back to do my breathing.

Hubby gets into bed says I'm not going to sleep well tonight as its to hot his head hits the pillow zzzzzzzzzzz literally that fast, he can turn if so quick and fall asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow, its so annoying

I make myself comfortable, hubby is settled and the dogs are sound asleep, now its my turn to at least relax and empty my brain * I do find that night time is the worst time as your brain fills up with everything*
I concentrate on my breathing
Breath in through my nose, counting in my head 1, 2, 3, hold for 1
Then
Breath out through my mouth, counting 1, 2, 3, hold fold for 1

I can feel my body starting to relax, I continue this until I feel relaxed then still concentrating on my breathing I let my thoughts enter my head letting each thought drift through my head without focusing on one. I have found since starting this a good few months ago I have got so much better at not focusing and not breaking the meditation. I do this for around 20 minutes, I don't always fall asleep but I am super relaxed, comfortable and ready for sleep.

I would advise everyone to give Mindfulness Meditation a go, If you feeling anxious worried, can't sleep, have a lot going on this can definitely help you clear your mind and thoughts, help your body relax and calm your self down. Start off for 5 minutes then build yourself up. Its took me around 6 months to get this far, I have enjoyed it and now starting to feel then benefits.

I've tried it. y landlord runs classes in it. But I get bored and start thinking about all the stuff I need to get done once this session is finished.

What works for me sometimes is building a house in my head - starting with the foundations and putting in all the bits and pieces. I guess it is a similar thing, you are gently focused on a single thing.

The other thing that calms me down and lets me sleep really well (and I have always had sleeping problems) is running. Since completing my first marathon on Sunday I'm sleeping like a log! hehe

You will do your body must be shattered, I need a lie down reading your post about it lol :)

I'm actually surprisingly good. I went to the gym last night and did a light session. Me thighs are pretty sore, and my lungs hurt when I breathe deeply, but apart from that, I've come through it really well, and I'mm looking forward to getting out in the weekend and training for the next race.

You need to rest then and give your body some TLC :)

I hear that! :-)

@karenb54 Another great post and helping others out with your thoughts and experiences with meditation. I believe in the power of the mind, coupled with various therapies from talk therapy to PEMF, to electrical stimulation devices. One of the interesting devices that have helped thousands with anxiety, depression, insomnia, and pain can be found here at:

Great to see you staying grounded and enjoying the practice

Thank you, I am enjoying it :)

My biggest issue when meditating is that I'm unintentionally focusing on meditating. I end up "breaking the meditation" . Great read though :)

I was the same when I first started, keep practising it does get easier :)

Great. Please sharing vote between us

it is really important that we need time to breathe and meditation helps a lot ;-)
