There's a misunderstanding in society that we should feel ashamed of thinking of ourselves first. That protecting our time or valuing ourselves should be apologised for.
In some way it's shameful to put your needs ahead of others or to take care of yourself.
It's preferred that you leave your health, happiness and financial future in the hands of a stranger.
Your doctor, pharmacist are called on to tell you what's wrong with you, what you need to do to get better and then to police you into taking care of yourself.
Is there self respect in a society that relies so heavily on another to be a better person?
Is it even possible to become a better person, healthier, happier, more stable when you take no responsibility for that which you rely on to live, breathe, eat?
The questions I ask have been answered time and again as I've traveled along this road called Life.
Being Thoughtful of Self is in itself singularly The most important part of your purpose on earth.
The more thought you give to self - and this is not ego or judgemental.
It is perspective :: learning, growth of self in acceptance that change is required for 'better' to flow into your life.
Every day I take a longer look at 'who I am'.
This is not... how famous, how beautiful, how young I appear...
This is... how did I treat others yesterday? How did it make them feel?
How can I do things better so that I don't repeat it?
Does it need to be fixed?
This is how you become Thoughtful of Self. By seeing the effect of your actions on others you are able to adjust your tone, actions, words to ensure the same message is delivered with a different effect.
Adjustments to self is a simple daily change that allows for continued increase in self worth, value to others and the bonus of it all: fewer apologies.
When you reach a state of thoughtfulness of self you become so mindful of your behavior that it's second nature, but still you're acutely aware of it in redesigning the shape of your life.
Suddenly life has no drama. Avoided by pre-thought, perspective and perception.
You laugh more.
Thoughts of beauty override those of what's been or may be to come.
You live in the moment, appreciating the value in those 'photo perfect' moments you would ordinarily not see.
When you become self aware or 'thoughtful of self' you naturally sit straighter, breathe better, smile more, look and feel more at peace... you also eat healthier and take responsibility for yourself, your actions and your situation.
This is a daily practice.
A tree must bear fruit, to do so it must go through immense change.
