Long-term thinking, to me, is often associated with goal setting and with distant circumstances, which are often very different than we imagined or become this golden egg we find ourselves chasing after. Sure, I agree that long-term thinking is highly beneficial - it directionally orients us. Myself, I am already very much hardwired into thinking about the future, so thinking about the short-term is often more valuable (and maybe conscious) - like making plans to bring my friends together for a garden party or cashing out my OT, so I can buy flowers for my garden party. Both perspectives are necessary and important, yet I also believe it is easier to tangibly enjoy many of those short term things you noted.
