Even in the face of wanton destruction and violence, Minneapolis is preventing business owners from taking a simple precaution to protect themselves and their property ... because of aesthetics.
The wise and all powerful leaders of Minneapolis have apparently decided that business owners are not allowed to use security devices like roll-down shutters and bars on windows. They say it is because these things cause a visual blight. I guess the burned out husks of buildings are more attractive. Add to that the fact that some business owners are refusing to replace windows unless they can implement such security measures and it would seem that this effort to reduce or eliminate visual "blight" has drastically backfired. This is not uncommon when the government attempts to legislate otherwise lawful behavior.
