Minnow Boot Camp Assignment #12: Sea life on Steemit

in minnowbootcamp •  7 years ago  (edited)

SOCIAL LEVEL STRUCTURE: Minnows, Dolphins, Whales, SP levels, discuss how this is different than Rep Levels. Also, the additional sea-life that is filling the gaps

This is a very handy infographic from @arcange that displays the various sea life on The Steem blockchain.

I found this infographic at Arcange's steemitboard post on the sea life rankings on Steemit.

Here we see, that we classify our Steem accounts to the various types of sea life, by checking our Steem Power and finding the best matching sea creature to best represent our account.

Reputation is based on votes and/or downvotes received by others with a higher reputation, Steem Power is the amount of 'Vested' shares of Steem you have invested into the blockchain via Steem Power aka 'sp' or 'Mvests'. Please do not confuse the two.

Each level briefly explained:

  • Red Fish: 0-499 Steem Power.

source

Red fishes are not to be confused with the mature red faced Pacific Salmon that are in their final stages of life trying to mate before they die. No! Instead look at it as a baby red Koi fish yet to grow into maturity. Just keep swimming and your sp will grow!

  • Minnow: 500-4,999 Steem Power.

source

Your 'stake'/ 'Vested shares' are increasing at this point. You either bought into Steem and powered up your Steem into Steem Power or your doing really well on your journey and are growing into a 'bigger' fish! It helps us all here on the Steem blockchain, so thank you!

  • Dolphin: 5,000-49,999 Steem Power.

source

This is where you will find a lot of love in my experience. Dolphins tend to be the most caring and travel in tighter knit groups around the Steem blockchain helping the smaller fish more often than not.

  • Orcas: 50,000-499,999 Steem Power.

source

The Orca on Steemit is often overlooked and can easily be confused as a Dolphin or Whale. Orcas are known as a secret on Steemit as most are not as well known as their bigger more aggressive brothers The Whales. You will find that a lot of quiet investors are here chilling out trying not to get a flag or 'rock' the boat if you will. Orcas can be very gentle creatures and are not to be messed with or bothered, so as to have them swim away or attack us. They can keep other aggressive whales, dolphins or even sharks at bay if they like you!

  • The Whale: 500,000+ Steem Power.

source

The Whale can be a unpredictable creature. The Whale is more often than not free to roam the entire Ocean of Steemit without much resistance from anyone other than another Whale. Whales can fight for dominance of parts of the Ocean against other Whales. If you ever come across a Whale fight its best to swim away as fast as possible. Whales sometimes will give you an epic ride through the ocean for free with a large upvote, most will charge however!😁

These next examples are exceptions to the rule of how Steem Power classifies your Steem account:

Arcange's post explains the new 'dead fish' classification for sea life on Steemit. Basically, if you're inactive for 7 days then you will be classified as a 'Dead Fish'.

  • Dead Fish: Inactive(Steem Power does not apply)

source

Wake and swim before someone eats you or stops swimming with you!!!

  • (business) Sharks: Steem Power not associated

No matter how cute a shark maybe avoid them! They are very knowledgeable of the Ocean and how to navigate them. Much like the term hippie is anointed upon pot smokers by others, the term shark is as well. Once bitten by a shark and you can live to tell is typically the only way to tell if someone is a shark, other than a rumor mill. Sharks are just very knowledgeable in Steemit and will eat you alive, with bad advice meant to only benefit them typically if you're not careful. This excerpt below, from a forum board sums up a 'business shark' beautifully!

  • Lead Guppy: Community Leader, No Steem Power associated.

source

Fishes that swim in Shoals like guppies have leaders that the group follows their every movement. This news article explains how fishes that swim in Shoals like guppies do so to avoid trouble or threats from predators. Communities on Steemit are much like a Shoal of fish swimming in unison typically. Many Steemit users will join a community for greater support and protection, they will typically have leaders that created them, these are your lead guppies.

Thank you for this post. It serves as a good reminder to me, that I shall try to stay alive and keep on swimming so I won't end up as a dead fish. I somehow regard you as my lead guppie, although I can be like Nemo, I may tend to swim away but will still find my way home.

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 10 SBD worth and should receive 86 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.

I love how you explain and described each of these ranks... So I'm a red fish after all... 😂 I'll keep swimming in the water.
