Tyrion lannister, si maybe the most iconic character of The game of thrones, in the series and books, has a particularity that makes him very memorable and is that he is a dwarf, but how does that affect to the story?
Tyrion lannister is the third son of tywin lannister and joanna lannister, before him the twins Jaime lannister and Cersei who are obviously his brothers, hes attitude and fisical apperience gives the story a very interesting diversity, the fact that he is a dwarf, but is known to the people as a Imp, a gnome etc, at the beggining of the story, george rr martin makes us clear thar he is very conscious of his situation,not just that, but his own family, specially his father,(this part actually gives enough material to the theory that Tywin is not he´s father and he isn´t a lannister, but i´ll talk about it in another post),everyone arround him had remember what he is,Even in the Game of thrones world, is clear that the people of westeros are ignorant, they dont accept science and facts on their live, they believe in Imps, magic, giants, etc, even when nobody see them anymore. Just like we were in the past, int he medieval period for example. the thing is that tyrion has taken this just like that; so now that he wont ever honor his family like his brother, or like his father did, he is rebel, he drinks too much, and he frecuents prostitutes, he has nothing to loose.
but he still in a royal family, and the series let us know that his way of overcome is to read, to know, to do exactly what the others don't,know what the most ignore. As the series and the character evolves, he has the opportunity of make a change, this is most representated when he meets Daenerys(who wants to give the minority a better life) and she names him hand of the queen.
i think of tyrion as the result of the prejudices, the living representation of a character who has actually done the things well but his only deffect has been born a dwarf, different,and this happens not just in the game of thrones, but in life. tyrion represents every minority whose only sin was born with less opportunity.
