@karbonxx as soon as you upvote my comment ill upvote you. moma tomato and baby tomato crossed the road, baby tomato was slow and moma tomato said Ketchup. (baby tomato got ran over)
This will inevitably lead to the original author gaining more than 10 Steem worth of value from this post because of how people will vote and the number of people who will vote. But for what? This post contributes nothing.
Net change = enriches the original poster. One commenter/upvoter will get some Steam. The system will reward this kind of behavior at the general expense of everything. Remember the way this intricate economy works is similar to a democratic socialism.
There are many new people on the site that never earn anything for their posts. This has the same dynamics as the Steemit platform itself. You never know when your post will be upvoted by a whale.
I was not trying to be personal about it and I'm glad you took it fine. I honestly think this is a really amazing platform after reading the white paper. I mean it is a little economy in itself with equity and debt and liquidity and some socialism. Just neat stuff!
A bunch of people voting for his/her post would not dilute his/her voting power. It would increase it because he would hold a higher proportion of steem power in the end. His voting power would go down if he went on a voting spree himself.
so if he votes on everybody that comments his voting power doesnt go down? Crazy, I voted on 20 people at once and it went down fast but I guess if he take 5min brakes it be okay?
Well it does not look like he is voting all of the comments up. If he were, that would hurt his power. The voting power is just a ratio of steem power to quantity or rate of voting over some short period of time (I think 24 hours). So assuming his steam power is fixed (just for the sake of argument), the more he votes, he less power he will have.
look how much better it works than reddit! He would have made nothing on there or ...well any other social media platform for that matter.
amazing how people think that those who have lots of steempower are somehow "unfairly" benefitting in the ecosystem they built that for the first time brings cryptocurrency to the masses in a way that also gives them a censorship resistent social media platform where OVER TIME (and with work and effort), you can build a very strong following of people who will only gain more and more traction as they bring more and more value to the platform.
Yes, early adopters tended to sacrifice for years to even make steemit possible...so they probably should have quite a bit more voting power than you on who to pay out---but this doesn't mean we can't make the platform better. Just stunning to think that you can't see past the money to recognize how much better it already is than the other social media platforms you use (and give alllll your value to freely).
Why don't you go to reddiit and post something then complain that on steemit you could have earned .41 cents or potentially thousands?
Now with that said, Pairmike you got the upvote but please make it a bit prettier by putting at least a gif in there. I like the idea, but the execution makes people like this guy complain and think that you are getting freebies. Because now that I upvoted you I promise he will complain how unfair it is that you get over 21 bucks just for posting a simple giveaway thread.
Thanks for the initiative @pairmike. while some people spend their time complaining---others bust their asses and make value until they are noticed. You have been noticed for attempting to create real value. Wish I could find all of it...but fortunately with some of the things we are talking about postentially in the background, this might be far more of a moot point.
I don't particularly like "lottery" posts but I want to increase my SP so I don't really see something wrong with it if it's honest and not a scam. In this case I trust @pairmike so let's see.
People do giveaways in Twitter and Facebook promoting products so I'm not entirely sure it's such a bad idea. I do agree with you that it should be a done with a little more effort perhaps. Please don't take it the wrong way @pairmike, it's not criticism for the sake of it (you are giving away a prize after all!).
Steem lottery, ok @heimindanger

Look how well this platform works. You have 41 votes and $0.87.
Only users with no money keep voting on this. People with actual money behind their account want to spend their votes in a more useful manner.
doing such a lottery seems like a bad thing to do, even a scam. However the platform is designed to withstand such attacks.
It is great to see how it will play out.
