Good Knight Story
Starting off my first weekly game review for Good Knight Story.
Score /5 : 4/5
What is Good Knight Story?
This is a match-3 style game but has aspects of RPG style play in it as well. It also has more of a storyline than other games like this.
So about that Story-line?
Without giving much away basically you got drunk one night and don't remember anything when you get up. You find yourself in a dungeon and fight your way out while also trying to figure out what happened the night prior. Every so many levels you will come across Taverns. These are the main places you will continue and build the story. There is a dragon that lost its gem and kidnapped a princess till it gets it back.
RPG Elements
So there is not a ton of RPG elements but you do get experience when beating levels which raise your character level. Every level you get to choose whether to raise your attack, defense, or health. I recommend building your attack in the building then adding some defense later on and then when you start to have problems or notice your health gets low after one hit start to add some health points.
Gameplay
Controls
This is a match 3 style game so you match elements together to attack creatures or people you are fighting There isn't much else to it other than that. SIMPLE!
Graphics
The graphics aren't the greatest but honestly they are meant to be that way. So with that said I think the graphics are well done and fit the type of gameplay it is meant for and the audience it is aimed at.
Battle System
The battle system is straightforward and isn't trying to be too complex but is balanced nicely so it's not easy either. Each element you match is a different color, there are 4 colors and each is strong against another. Also you will want to pay attention to the attack counter each creature has. When it gets to attack you, you can match shields which will allow you to block and negate any/all damage.
Overall Thoughts?
I think this is a solid game. I give it a 4 because it is one of the better match 3 style RPG games I have seen. It is not overwhelming and does not try to overload you with daily missions, login bonuses, battle arenas, single player, pvp, and tons of things that honestly are WAY too prevalent now. This game has a story-line that makes sense (in its own way) and is not trying to do a million things that usually end up turning me away and instead has just nice solid gameplay. This game isn't for everyone and many "hardcore" gamers may think its stupid but if you are looking for a nice little puzzle game that can be played more casually this is for you. This did not get a 5/5 because its not overwhelmingly awesome. There was nothing that I have been blown away with but I also cannot say what they could add to change that. So they get a 4/5.
Thats all for this week. Look for next weeks review!
