Missed Eclipse But Still A Spectacle

Monomad Blood Moon

I was just about to go to bed when a friend who is also visiting Devon came in from the garden, after a sneaky cigarette asking, "what was that moon thing you were on about? When the clouds part I can see a bit of red. Is that it?"

So, very excited, I rushed out into the garden and, although due to the clouds, I'd missed the eclipse which was to be the longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century, I did get to see a red aura and a brilliant moon.

This is not the best shot obviously, taken as it was with my phone, but I absolutely love it. Soooo exciting.

Can you see the red?

And . . . what is the white spot below? Do you know @molometer? Is it a star or a planet?

I can't tell you how chuffed I am to have captured this with my phone. 😁 😁 😁

This is my unexpected entry to @brumest's monomad contest.

Should have joined with the ciggy time! It's Mars Gillian..we didn't see any here as it's rainy.

Thanks for telling me it was mars @immarojas. That makes it even better. Sorry you missed it. Most people did in the UK too. 😁

Yeah..shame, I was even willing to stay awake for it😂🤣

Nice shot. Those skies with clouds swirling around the full moon are always so spectacular to see. We couldn't see the eclipse from the Americas, but did have a bright, clear full moon.

It's interesting to see what my phone can nand can't do. The moon was really crisp and clear to the eye but with the phone its very fuzzy. I still like the photograph a lot though. Especially as you can see the red and, what I've now been told, is mars. 😁

A beautifully dramatic sky! Wonderful photo!

Thank you @melinda010100. I was pretty chuffed with it! 😁

Great photo @gillianpearce you recorded where you were when it happened and that is something you will never forget. @immarojas is right. It is Mars. It is very close to Earth right now.

Thank you @molometer. I was really lucky to see it I think. Fortunately by that part of the evening the clouds were moving really fast. 😁

This was kind of the picture I saw as well

We were lucky to see anything I think @towjam. Given the weather. 😊

Thank you for visiting.

Much better than nothing @towjam wasn't it? 😊

Thank you for visiting.

cool @gillianpearce. I was just researching blood moon but I found out it is not visible in North America :(

It was a shame we missed the eclipse @steven-patrick but the moon was worth waiting up for. 😊

Wonderful great sky!

Thank you @manuelnoya. Glad you liked it. Thanks for stopping by.😊
