Manic Monday

Being in middle school in the 80s pop culture was popular. On the radio we listened to B96 for the top hits.

You know the song, "Walking like an Egyptian"? Well the same Bangles sang Manic Monday. This is the day I wake up early and go back to teaching third grade students the key expression, "Sit down, please."

Manic Monday by the Bangles

Six o'clock already
I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissin' Valentino
By a crystal blue Italian stream
But I can't be late
'Cause then I guess I just won't get paid
These are the days
When you wish your bed was already made
It's just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
'Cause that's my fun day
My I don't have to run day
It's just another manic Monday

Later I couldn't understand why I liked this music that got embedded in my brain. I didn't like this kind of music but it was just so overplayed on the radio and the kids at school listened to it. Today's pop culture is not on the radio and it is not found on blogs.

Today's young people thirst for a lot more than pop culture can offer. They want the truth. They don't want to be lied to and they want to find a way that they can be acknowledged for being who they are not who or what someone wants them to be.

Although the Bangles are an unforgettable part of pop culture in 1986, they are a picture of a time when what was in was cool. It just took about a year before the hipsters came out and told the world that mainstream ain't cool anymore.

So true :) Back in the days when going for lesser mainstream music, one could be seen a weirdo more easily then nowadays :)

Thank you for stopping by and sharing the music 🎶. All those words years ago have different meanings like wierdo, nerd, freak, geek. They have developed a subculture in and of themselves. But still the music goes ahead.
