Dollar "Coffee" Averaging - Budgeting with Crypto Rewards

I am obsessed with coffee, I buy Starbucks at least 3 times per week, which means I spend over $500 per year on coffee! Since there is free coffee at work, and coffee at home, I shouldn't be spending so much. And I've always wanted to cut back but never had the discipline or an incentive. However, today I talked myself out of a $5.00 drink with a great idea - Dollar "Coffee" Averaging (haha).

It seems so easy to cut the small expenses like a latte, but when there is no incentive it is hard; and the small expenses quickly add up. I decided to create my own incentive, every time I discipline myself not to buy that extra coffee, I will "reward" myself with Bitcoin or an altcoin. For example, today I talked myself out of a Caramel Macchiatto (which I love so dearly), so I am going to purchase $5.00 USD of Bitcoin. Hopefully over time I discipline myself out of $500 per year in coffee, and I end up buying myself the same amount invested in Bitcoin!

To avoid obscene transaction fees on my credit card when I buy through Coinbase, so I am going to accumulate my crypto "rewards" in a schedule, and then make one purchase when I accumulate enough (as a tack-on to my existing investment pattern).

What do you think, would this be a fun way for you to cut out a a small expense? If you are already doing something like this (like a dollar/change jar), please share!

Interesting Idea !! personally I make extra money selling thrifted stuff on eBay...it's fairly easy and I make as much as I wanna work it. I vlog about it here and on YouTube !! +1 and good luck

That's great, I'll follow you, I have a ton of stuff lying around that I should try on eBay.

I like that idea!
One thing I considered doing myself, is cleaning up my house and selling off all the stuff that's stored away and I have not used in years. It's collecting dust now and doing nothing.. might as well find a happy buyer and get me some more of this exciting crypto 🤑

Edit: Quickly glanced at your posts, seems like interesting stuff. I'll follow you! If you're interested in crypto related stuff, consider following me back!

Finding ways to drive money into your crypto empire is a great idea. I would offer a couple of ideas in addition. First find an online place to buy freshly roasted coffee beans. One I like is creeksidecoffeecompany.com. You can try different varieties and have a lot of fun with it. Typically independent roasters offer freshly roasted vs Starbucks where you don't know how long the coffee has been in the bag. Of course you will have to buy a coffee mill/grinder but they are fairly inexpensive. Next, try using a french press (coffee press) to brew the coffee. You taste so much more flavor compared to coffee filtered through paper. Coffee which is freshly ground and brewed this way is remarkably good. Finally, take a look at Gemini.com to exchange USD to Bitcoin. I have had very good experience with them and will never use Coinbase again due to several bad experiences.

Thank you for the tips, I'll check out the sites you suggested, especially the coffee beans! I work near a local shop that offers french press coffee, it's very good.

Have you considered getting large coffees at Dunkin Donuts during the Sip Peel Win promotion? The cost of coffee is less than $3.00 and you get a great deal out of it for the next time you shop at Dunkin.
