Is it just me or do people not reply on Steemit unless there's incentive? I am starting to see this more and more. I kind of feel like people are on a high horse here and it really is not attractive. Not everybody is but it seems like people are using a lot of reverse psychology to get shares, upvotes, and more followers. I mean I know it may not look like much but I kind of just want to talk shit on everybody that says I can't do what they are doing. I've worked multi level marketing jobs and the environment is cancerous. A few people win by taking advantage of others emotions of wanting what they have and share in edited videos. Believe me behind the camera is a much different picture. The whole thing is smoke and mirrors. Its all an act. I really hope Steem doesn't turn into something like that Ive heard a few people talk about steemit having a referral program they talk about it excitingly for me I'm not going to play that game. I'm not going to sit around and say I don't need to rely on people while simultaneously relying on people to earn money.
Now some people have called me out and said that is not what the steem blockchain is about but I'm seeing a lot of bad apples that you can tell want it to be like that. I'm sure if they had it their way they would. Ive been real hesitant to speak my mind on Steemit in fear of being silenced or "downvoted" I'm pretty sure that feeling is not going to go away. A whale could out me at anytime that is how this has been designed. I don't even have to be wrong they can just not like what they are hearing and I'm gone.
The whole thing is still pretty interesting because I could also theoretically "get paid" from this exact post.
@danielownsall I think a referral program would just turn into another way for youtube personalities to funnel their sheep.
I think that there is an opportunity to improve the interactions, but it needs a development function. Innovation on the GUI and interface schemes will need to drive the improvements.

@danielownsall thanks. I have thought on countless occasions that if there was a different way to classify content (other than tags), it would make consumption so much better. For example, a dashboard-style interface that is customizable (with auto-curation algos) could be used. If you are interested in photos only, then you can set the filters for a given spot on a segment of the dashboard. If you are looking for news, it would be a "feed" style interface. "Home", "New", "Trending" and "Promoted" could be defaults, but can be easily swapped.
People like Facebook because of the ease of consuming content. Microsoft is destroying LinkedIn post-acquisition because they made it harder to spend short yet frequent stop to the site. Twitter will always be a stadium of humanity, all armed with megaphones and writs braces (for the immense of armchair-expert-ing). But if Steemit had a way to customize the experience based on the platform you enjoy the most, I think you would see an explosion in people joining.

100 years ago Oscar Wilde said, "Nowadays people know price of everything & the value of nothing." People didn't change much I guess ^^

The system is designed to promote this. When you up-vote someone's article you are actually giving them steem so when you up-vote you are really giving away money. Why would someone give away money unless they are doing it strategically to try to get money. For those of us that didn't invest anything into it we just up-vote the stuff we like (i'm actually out of Steem and can't up-vote any more). However, the people that are invested in it only upvote for the following reasons:
This is not a system where the best content rises to the top. It's a very political system designed to prop up the value of steem, not to create good content.

I agree that there are people who 1st look at the wallets and past blogs and then determine if they should invest in the most current post. There's also people who are brand new, no STEEM other than what they started with..and they happen to write a really good post. That post then makes them $200+ and they just continue pumping out good posts. In doing so, they gain attraction from new followers and they become successful on their own.
On the good side, it's not like anyone is loosing money if their "channel" doesn't do well. It's all up to the blogger to decide where they take themselves.
