Domain Name Research
It’s now time to find a keyword-rich domain name and purchase it! A keyword-rich domain name is one which allows for people to find you easily (on Flippa and on Google), which makes it attractive to buyers, and thus leads to more profit. This is because buyers have a greater chance of ranking on search engines through the SEO-friendly domain name you will provide them with. Therefore, it is essential to grab a keyword-rich domain name so that if someone wants to buy a website in your niche, they will see you at the top of the Flippa search results (because of your domain name).
Expired Domains
There are two websites I use for researching for domain names. The first is ExpiredDomains.net. Sign up for an account there, it’s free, and will be necessary to follow my instructions properly. From the homepage, select “Deleted .com” on the main header. This ensures that you will only get .com results. Click on “Show Filter.” Now, put in the main keyword for the topic/niche you have chosen in the “contains” box under “Domain Name Whitelist.” Under “Domain Name Settings”, select “no Numbers”, “no consecutive Hyphens” and “no Hyphens.” This will ensure that you find only the best domain names. Apply the filter. Now, you should be able to see a list of recently expired domain names.
If you know anything about domain names, shorter is always better. Click on the “LE” tab to sort by this. You should also sort the domain names you get by the number of backlinks so that they may provide more value to the buyer. Do this by clicking on the “BL” tab. After finding a decent domain name that is simple, not too long, and one that has a decent number of backlinks (~100 or more), I plug the domain name into a website called SEMRush.com. This website, although limited to a low number of daily searches per day if you are on a free account, will allow you to validate the number of backlinks that ExpiredDomains.net shows.
You should then go back to your filtered search on ExpiredDomains.net and look at what date the site was dropped under the “Dropped” tab, the year of birth “ABY”, and Archive.org results “ACR.” An older domain name is usually better and if the site was just recently dropped, the domain may still have lots of real value in it. You can use the Way Back Machine on Archive.org to see how the website looked like before it was dropped if you choose. With all of this information to consider, you should remember that the simpler a domain name is, the better.
Lean Domain Search
The second website I use for domain names is LeanDomainSearch.com. This website is great for coming up with brandable and simple domain names. Put in your niche/topic single keyword into the search bar and click on “Search Domains.” You will be presented with thousands of possible domain names for the keyword you typed. You can then go back to ExpiredDomains.net and search for similar domain names to the ones you find on LeanDomainSearch.com to possibly find a website you did not already find. After deciding on a domain name, you can continue to the next and upcoming post!
Note: Please tell me anything that I can improve on in my posts. Thanks!
