New Coins...Again?

in money •  7 years ago

I really don't know how many times the Philippines have changed their money. The paper bills and the coins. I seem to have a lot of the different coins, from the very big 1 pesos coins to the small ones. Mostly yellow and white colors. I guess the coins my mom have saved will just be collector items someday. I even have coins way back 1960 and old 10 centavo coins that were supposed to be pure silver dated I think 1930? I am not sure but they are in jars. Someday I will check them again and segregate them by coins. But I will need to look for big bottles lol. My mom has been collecting them for a long time. She even has foreign coins.

Well in the news they said the new coins will be coming out this month but the old coins can still be used until they announce it.

These are the coins being used as of now. They seem ok to me but sometimes children and even adults (guilty) make bracelets or chains out of the 5 centavo coin because it has a hole in the center and the 10-5 and 1 centavo coins are really small. Whenever I get some I drop them in my piggy bank along with the 25 centavo coins and some 1 peso coins.Just another savings.

I think this was their first change. They kept the 10 peso coin bi-colored. Which I think is ok so you can tell the difference. Seems like the 5 peso and 1 peso looks like the same size. But they said the 1 peso is sightly smaller hmmm.

Well they finally decided on these changes. It looks all the same. They said that there are differences like on the ridges and the texture. They also said that it will make people more attentive. But when you are in a hurry, you barely have time to really check out your change, Also the poor drivers ore conductors who will have to scrutinize the coins and the change first before giving it out. You know that could be another reason for accidents or traffic.

Maybe they could have made the sizes more distinct or the thickness so it will be easier. Will take time to get used to it but hopefully we can. At least they changed the paper bills but there are problems especially with the colors.

Well here is their description and the small details. I wonder if they will be changing again? Some countries have had the same coins and paper bills for a long time. The US does and just change or add to the design. If ever these coins click, I do hope it will stay that way.

Picture is mine
Yesterday I opened my piggy bank and counted all the 10 centavo coins and exchanged for paper bills. I got 7,700 pesos in 2 years and my 6 peso coins were only 1,700 pesos because I had taken 5,500 last year to put a down on a freezer I bought. I would have had 14,900 saved but at least I was able to buy a stand-up freezer. I still have some coins in another piggy bank, probably over 1 - 1,500 pesos. I also have 4,240 pesos saved in paper bills. I plan to buy a new camera so saving for it then also to start saving for a ticket to the US. Along with my #steemit earnings. Slow steady savings will get me through it and I will reach my goal.

So by the end of this year there will be more new coins coming out and the old ones being probably kept or re-minted.

It's amazing how patiently you've waited to save the coins in the piggy bank!

been tempted but I only took 5500 last year to put a down on a stand up freezer which I needed.

Vote me plz

Parang nakakalito na ung 1 peso and 5peso coin, may pagkasimilar kasi sila ng size and color. I already saw the 5peso coin, and napagkamalan q sya na 1 peso buti nakita ko yung number, lol.

yup that is the problem they should have made the 5 peso bigger abd the 10 peso bigger too para ma identify

wow ang dming pera, enge po

Hala, nakakaduling na mga coins. Thanks for this infor, i have not encountered these new coins yet. But made me think that I should open my piggies as well and have them changed. Congrats on your savings too.

yes before they get demonetized

Good thing i came across your post. Thanks mam @purpledaisy57!

It's good to save..

Aw. Dami po nyan, mommy ah!

Ganyan ang naiisip ng walang magawa haha! Kung anu-ano na lang e hindi naman nakakatulong. Ano kaya talaga ang rason kung bakit sila palit ng palit.

The new 5peso coin is just like 1peso coin...

Not really a good idea keep changing the money!
