Classic IT department problems. When everything is working fine the management wonders "why do we even pay these people?" then when they're all laid off and everything goes haywire, clients wonder "why do they even pay those people?"
Even if there is a team of 100 IT engineers, these kind of server related disasters can take days to even begin to figure out. Especially if they're in the midst of a staff rollover.
