A weeping statue at Père Lachaise

in monochromemonday •  7 years ago  (edited)

I am taking a cue from @melinda010100’s #monochromemonday post today, and sharing one of my #cemeteryphotos. First opened in 1804, Père Lachaise in Paris, France is the largest cemetery in the city and is the final resting place of many notable artists, musicians, and writers. Large crowds of tourists flock to see the graves of people like Oscar Wilde, Modigliani, Gertrude Stein, Édith Piaf, Frédéric Chopin, and Jim Morrison. It's not surprising that Père Lachaise the most visited cemetery in the world, but off the beaten path it is a quiet place where you can experience the solemn beauty of weathered tombs, statues, and markers that commemorate the lives of the cemetery's less famous residents.

Update: I originally just posted the black and white version, but I thought some people might want to see the color version too. Which do you prefer?

I love Père Lachaise! Very nice shot.

Thank you!

Oh! I always wanted to visit that cemetery! I have been to Paris several times, but never made there. Hope you post more photos son that I can see it through your eyes!

I will definitely post more. It was about two years ago when we visited, but I am glad that your post today reminded me to look back at those photos.

I like both versions!

Thank you! I think I still prefer the feel of the black and white for this shot, but I do like the detail of the statue in green.
