Who remembers these things?

It has been ages since a payphone was actually a ‘thing’. These were all the rage back in the day (or so I’ve heard) 🤣 Those were the ancient times before we could simply whip out a phone from our pocket and have more connectivity than any other time in human history.

ancient relic aka a payphone

Have a fantastic new week you guys!

Has anyone else ever seen or even used a payphone before? 😀

I can remember the party line phones where 4 or 5 different households/businesses shared a line,
It had a little crank handle on the side, you would lift the handpiece, have a listen, and if no one was talking, ask "Working?". If there was no response you would turn the little crank handle to send morse code letters to the recipient if they were on your line, or to the operator who would connect you to somebody else's line.
Scandle sure spread fast in those days.

That sounds like it could've been a bit of fun :)

I was at the age where I was only allowed to use it under supervision, otherwise, I still wouldn't be able to sit down by now.
Our letter was D, in a large crowd where it was easy to get lost, Dad would "Shepherd" whistle the letter D, so you knew where to go to, quickly, or else.

Such different times from the present, that's for certain.

I think there may still be a pay phone down town still, will try and get down for a look tomorrow.

Yes I do remember using these wonderful devices. It was always a scary experience. To share the same phone with so many hands so many ears and so many bodies was never easy. We have come a long way since these public pay phones were the only way to remain connected on the road. Thank God for cell phones.

I hear you loud and clear about the scariness factor @fineliving :)
We have definitely moved light years ahead since those days, which weren't too long ago either.
