Two Semesters And Five Months Later; On Becoming A Full Time Steemian

January 7, 2017 while searching Twitter for Medium writers to follow, I came across the Steemit URL. Unfortunately, I can't recollect the user's name but I'll be forever grateful to whoever they are for sharing the Steemit URL on Twitter. I joined within minutes!

I was just going in for my second semester and had too much time on my hands. Time that was previously being squandered roaming the streets of Twitter, Medium and moving from one drama to the other.

In one of my other posts, I talked about how fascinated I always was whenever I watched people debate or grant interviews in very brilliant ways. The question on my mind was always:

When would I ever have something to say? Something people will be fascinated by. - Fi

The reality at the time was that I didn't think I had anything to offer. In fact, I had concluded that I didn't have anything to offer and the best I could do was hope for that glorious day when I'd have things to talk about and have people listen to me.

It was a dream!

Like everything else in life, you'd never be good at it if you don't start. What I've grown to understand, and what my dad always told me, is that nobody was born complete with all they possess today.

I'm a lover of tech with a first degree in computer science but programmers always amazed me. The ability to write down characters and have computers do crazy stuff was crazy! It was magic - at least that's what I thought until I threw myself in and began to try it out.

Soon enough I became a "magician"! I was doing beautiful things with code and commendations were flowing left, right and center.

The Moral Of The Story

  • The best became who they are because they kept at what they did.

  • There will always be times when you'll feel inadequate and overwhelmed by the successes of others but always remember that they got there by taking steps that are also available to you.

  • Patience and persistence will take you wherever you want to go.

All I did prior to Steemit was live in my head. Ideas after ideas but never felt like I had anything to offer the world at the time or anytime soon.

Look at me now!

I still don't know what's special about what I do or say that gets people fascinated but I guess that's how those I was fascinated by felt too!

The place I hoped to get to isn't looking like anything I conjured way back. It's not a place with bright lights and superpowers; it's being who you've always been.

Now that i'm done with my postgraduate course, I'll be Steeming full time! That means you haven't seen nothing yet from me!

Listen:

It has always been in you to be great. Keep working towards it!

If you can @dreemit, you can achieve it! - Fi

Congratulations on your achievement at Steemit. I will retire in a few years time and can spend more time here.

Thank you. I've been lucky to have enough time to spare.
