One of the keys to becoming an excellent writer, for me, is to know how to motivate the mindless. Writing is a form of expressing oneself, and it is an important aspect of communication, so being able to do this well is a must.
The first thing that you can do to learn how to motivate the mindless is to write down whatever it is that you need to write about. I'm talking about a story here, but in any case, just jot down whatever thoughts or ideas are coming to you in your head. It could be about something that happened in your life, or it could be something that you are interested in, or maybe even something that has been bugging you all your life. Just write it down.
You have to write it down for several reasons. First, it will help you to put things into words. Second, it will help you understand what you are doing, because you are going to need to put it in writing. Third, if you need to, it can act as a reminder, so that you can get it back out of your head. Just think of what is important in your life.
What does it mean to you, to have a hobby or to take up something that you want to learn? Think about what you want to learn about. Is it important to you? Are you passionate about the subject? If you answer yes to the first question, then the answer to the second is yes, because if you were to stop caring about the subject then it would not be an interest for you.
Write this down on paper. This way you can get it out of your head and into a journal, so that you can be reminded to write. If you have time, go through the pages of the journal, and see if there is anything important that you have been neglecting for many years.
Now, how do you go about motivating yourself? You can do this through positive reinforcement. There are some people who think that you just need to make the right decisions and follow through. This is not true, so if you can find a way to make that happen, then do that.
Affirmation of course is one method that works very well. It can be as simple as, for example, saying, "I can accomplish this, because I am willing."
Another method of motivation that I use often is repetition. When I have a writing assignment that is very long or complex, I make sure that I write about it two times before I start on it. If I don't do that, then I forget what I am writing about.
Writing that is longer than five minutes will help to refresh your mind, so that you don't forget what you are writing about. Once you finish writing, go back over the article and make sure you read all of the words you wrote, making sure they are worth reading.
Think about what you did when you are not motivated. You have probably heard many stories of people who sit and stare at their computer screen for hours. It is a good thing that you are here reading, and you know that you have nothing to lose by being productive. When you think about this, you will realize that sometimes people get a little lazy. bored.
When I get bored I start to think about all the things that I have been doing that are not important to me, and try to think about them.
