What Is The ONE THING You Can Do?

in motivation •  7 years ago

My mind and my heart have been focused on other things this past week, so I have not posted on Steemit in a couple of days.

I do want to share some very timely advice that was given to me last week.

My best friend was texting me some encouragement because I was feeling down. I was telling her all the things that were happening and how I was feeling helpless about it all. She then asked me a question:

What is the ONE THING you can do?

I told her what I could do about my situation. And do you know what? It was like a heavy weight was being lifted off my shoulders. I did not have to focus my mind on the crazy situations. I could stop, take a deep breath, and focus on the ONE thing that I could do. It may not be much and may not offer a lot, but it is what I can do at the moment.

It is kind of like what happens when you see a baby start crawling, then standing, then walking. They want to get to where their parents are, but in order to do it, they have to move over there. So they slowly begin the process of crawling, one small movement at a time. Then they learn how to stand for a couple of seconds, then longer, and longer. Then they take that first step holding on to furniture. Then they step out with no furniture - just themselves and their balance. It’s not easy, and they fall so many times, but they keep doing what they can do over and over until they are doing what they could not do earlier.

If you are going through a situation that seems to be overwhelming you, then I want to encourage you to

  • Stop.
  • Take a deep breath.
  • Think about the ONE thing you can do.
  • Go and do that thing.

It will help you feel more empowered about a situation that feels out of your control.

I agree @mrscwin... Every target (never mind how small) has got to be achievable so you can see progress...

That is 100% the truth, small steps make a difference @cryptocariad!

So very true. Breaking things into do-able parts in order to have a starting point is very important. And a part of the process that is necessary to making progress. Works as well in life as it does in crafts. 💙💜💛💚❤

It certainly is @jamethiel!

Good advice! My mum always used to say, think about it n the morning, you'll feel better then. I never understood what she was talking (I was about seven and couldn't imagine feeling any different)! She was always right, though. Hope things are working out for you.

Thanks @shanibeer, and that is great advice from your mum!

Hello @mrscwin, how are you today?
I would like to use that marvellous photograph of you above in a blog post, would that be okay? I'll credit you as the source and link back to this post. Many thanks.

Absolutely - feel free!! 😊

Thank you - watch out for the post (not sure when it will appear)!
