HOW TO GET MOTIVATED IN ORDER TO DEAL WITH PROCRASTINATION

in motivation •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello Fellow Steemian, I would like to share some few thoughts with you in respect to how I choose not to procrastinate on the things I need to do. One of the findings I was able to come up with is the fact that “a well-motivated individual will not have the attitude of a procrastinator, but instead an excellent disposition towards task’’.

Due to the level of motivation instilled in such an individual he/she tends to channel his strength in making sure that he uses a lot of self-motivated skills to guide himself against the acts of procrastination. In other words things will be getting done on time, efficiently and effectively.

Motivation can be thought of as the process of channeling the surplus energy of the brain toward a definite goal and purpose;
‘’Motivation is like a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire for you, chances are it will burn very briefly ‘’ Meaning you have to do it yourself.

Procrastination is an act of postponing, delaying or putting off, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness. Leaving what needed to be executed immediately to a later time in the future. Simply put; acts that makes someone to delay working on things.

To actually use motivation to curb and control the level of procrastination in an individual then the following points should be considered;

i. Never keep doing the same task for too long. Such thing makes even the most interesting task to look boring and tiring and as such leads to refusal of doing it when necessary or needed.

ii. Try to alternate between two boring task, and such will reduce boredom in both tasks by 50%. (Try it)

iii. If you have someone around you doing a task a bit different from what you are doing, then it is advisable to exchange with such person especially when you can handle the same task the person is doing. It is called JOB ROTATION in the management field.

iv. Learn to reward yourself when you have done a task or job well. It is a form of motivation to want to do more and better.

A Yoruba adage says “a child that is hard working (not lazy) should have time to enjoy the reward of his hard work (labor)’’

v. If you have an uninteresting task or job left to do, write it down and pin it somewhere in your work station so that you can see it and get constantly reminded about it till you finally execute it.

vi. Try to take breaks every half an hour. You can do that by getting up, walk around the office depending on what you do or do some stretching exercise. Adding some jokes (humor) to your presentation can reduce boredom.

vii. Talk about your job or task to a sympathetic listener who can give you encouragement. Share your daily routine with an optimist and not a pessimist.

viii. Make sure your work environment looks more attractive by pinning up some motivating words and quotes or some beautiful wall posters. Just do things that can make you smile always.

ix. Write down a list of not-so-interesting task you have done in the past and pin it up. What that does to you is to remind you that if you have done it before and succeed in it, then you can surely do it again.

x. Take time to relax, just sit back and close your eyes and hum a favorite tune for a minute or two. But try not to fall asleep.

xi. If you are allowed to, try playing some soft music while you work. There is a power in music that re-energizes ones strength to want to do more and achieve more.

In conclusion, procrastination does not show how diligent and hardworking an individual is. It only depicts that person as a not serious and unreliable element that cannot be relied upon to do things rightly and timely.

Self-motivation come inform of self-talk, self-charge, self-encouragement, self-recognition, self-alignment, self-awareness and so many others SELF, which are good antidote that you can use to fight against the acts of procrastination at any point in time.
