Earlier today we had a power outage where I live. The frequency of these outages have increased in recent times, yet this one caught me somewhat off guard. My laptop battery was low. My cell phone's battery was even lower and my Kindle the lowest of all. And there I was with time to make use of these devices after a very busy period but they were about to leave me high and dry.

I'm sure you've been in a similar situation and have developed a regime for keeping your devices charged. You do not get into your car for a long trip and the tank is empty or your phone is not charged. It is important to be prepared and keeping every relevant battery charged is one of them.

However, we neglect to charge our own batteries. We pretend that we can keep going and going and going. Life is not inclined to offer us pitstops or schedule events and challenges for our convenience. We need to find a rhythm that will enable us to keep going for the long haul. It is unwise to let our batteries drop into the red zone before we stop to recharge. If we need to dig deep while in the red zone, we may not have enough left to make it.

Jesus speaks this invitation in Matthew 11.

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

I love the way The Message phrases it. And I love the invitation!

Your life needs the right rhythm!
You need to be plugged into a source of power!
You need to recharge often enough!

I will be writing about the unforced rhythms of grace at a later stage. It is the most beautiful concept in the universe! May you experience some of it this week.

It’s an important message that many people forget. I see it in my classmates, who put 14 hours a day into studying and they’re constantly stressed, tired, and sleep-deprived. Which leads to drastically reduced capacity to absorb new information and to produce quality papers. However, when I invite them to follow with me to a board games night, to a church service on Sunday, to a walk in nature, to a concert, or advice them to see a study counselor, they deny, saying that “they don’t have time, must study”. Hmm…

That’s why I wasn’t say when I read that my friend @gillianpearce is taking some time off Steem. She needs more time to enjoy life afk and recharge her batteries. For those reasons I approve her decision!

Once again, thank you for reminding all your readers of the necessity of having a more sustainably rhythm in life!

@reonlouw,

I've always thought that most religious folks don't know how to "sell" religion. Trying to convince people of the veracity of this miracle or that is missing the point.

As a poet, I've repeatedly written that the mechanics of poetry: Meter; rhythm and rhyme merely force-multiply that which underlies ... an idea, ideal or insight (the most powerful of which is an insight).

The Bible, especially the New Testament, is a tour de force of metaphoric stories and literary devices ... biblical stories meant to force-multiply an underlying insight about how not to be schmuck.

These literary techniques are used everyday by countless great writers and poets. Indeed, art is nothing if not hyperbole. If we can accept the purpose of these literary techniques in modern-storytelling ... why do we get so upset by their use by ancient storytellers?

No one lets the "technical details" of the Iliad diminish the message Homer was trying to send to his fellow Greeks ... and by extension, us.

Ren, although I'm not a religious person (I'm not irreligious either), I enjoy your style of presentation. And guess what ... your posts frequently use metaphoric language ... to communicate your insights. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Keep up the good work.

We must always be prepared, especially when it comes to our spiritual life ... because in a second we can lose everything and in a second we can have eternity ... so we have to be always alert and ready for the big day!

You have collected your daily Power Up!
Learn how to Power Up Smart here!

Most important is not to overdo oneself and recharge regularly before you have burn out!

Making sure everything is always fully charged you have to get into a habit once a day to check, needless to say there will always be one particular thing you will overlook. We all rely so much on electricity in this modern world today!

"Learn the unforced rhythms of grace."

This is what I need. I think you know I have been struggling with my wifi recently, @reonlouw. This has been so hard for me. I am used to doing 10 things at once online and now have to find a whole new way to work. It's a power outage every day for me from now on. If I use just a bit too much wifi each day - I will have none by the end of the month.

So I am re-grouping and finding a new path. It is not easy, but I will not be deterred in my mission. Regardless I what happens, I still have my goals and they stay at the top of my thoughts.

I miss you posting as much as you were. Hang in there and prayers are being said for you. I came to your blog today because of your feature on qurator. Big congrats to you :)
