YOU GET WHAT YOU'RE WORTH

in motivation •  7 years ago

I am addressing something that is directly responsible for failure or success in any sphere of life. We live in a rushed world where everything has to happen now. We look for shortcuts and therefore don't go all in.

Are you all in?

I just watched a sermon by TD Jakes. After posting my first blog this morning before going to work, I didn't know what I was going to write about in the afternoon.

I was experiencing a minor writer's block. It's been eleven days straight of posting twice daily and commenting over fifty time a day. I'm not talking one liners or "this is a good post" kind of comments. I'm talking well written and well thought of commenting. That is a lot of content in such a short period of time. Today I experienced the effects of all that hard work.

Do you understand why I put in so much work? It's because I am all in. Source

You earn what you're worth

I've seen lazy posts in steemit. I've seen short and long posts but they were lazy. I could tell that no real thought went into constructing those posts. No real work was done in writing those posts. They were just written to be posted.

Are such people all in?

I've seen powerful posts on steemit; well written, well-constructed, thought provoking, emotional, intelligent pieces of work. In comparison, just for a moment I felt as though I am not doing enough. I need to get to that level. I felt even more determined to work even harder than I am right now.

Why did someone else's work make me feel inadequate? It's because I am all in. They are better than I am in my craft. It's not a competition, it's growth. They've shown me what is possible and I accepted the challenge.

What you sow is what you reap

You get out what you put in. You can't put in 30% of work and expect a 100% return for your work. You get what you give! I'M REPEATING THE SAME SENTIMENT IN THIS PARAGRAPH BECAUSE I WANT THIS POINT TO HIT HOME!

You spend 10 minutes on a post writing whatever comes to mind. When you're done you don't even proofread it. You don't revise your work. You just want to post it and get paid. Why? Why would get paid for doing nothing? You get what you deserve.

The way you approach your work is the same way you approach life. If your mentality is to half arse everything you do then expect half arse results in life. It's really that simple. You lay in a bed that you've made.

Listen to your WHY

Like I alluded in the above paragraphs, today I didn't feel like posting twice. I just didn't have the words. You see everything I write has meaning to me. I take pride in my writing. I will never post for the sake of posting hence I decided that I wasn't going to write a second post today.

I couldn't go through with it though. My WHY is just too strong. It wouldn't allow me to take a break; not now. There's still much to be done. In yesterday's posts I spoke about this in more detail. If your WHY is strong enough, nothing can hold you back; not even writer's block. My passion has become my mission.

Your WHY has to be strong enough to drive you into action even when your entire being is saying no.

You have a good attitude. Persistence is key. Most people are lazy and not willing to work hard. If you keep working hard, others will notice your work and it will be worth it!

That is the plan. I hope others do take notice quickly and realise what hard work is. I came here with an all or nothing attitude which I think is key for someone who is starting from scratch with no social media following, money or bitcoin at hand to steem up or any advantage like that.
I wish I had such an advantage though lol

I agree with every word of this post. I find that when I really take the time and put everything into a project, things go much better than when I rush through and only do what's "good enough".

It's a tough balance to create, however, as you don't want to go all perfectionist on your work and never finish, but you do want to put in enough time and effort to be successful!

Exactly. Sometimes "finished" is better than "sitting on my hard drive because it isn't perfect."

I agree with Keciah, I've always been a perfectionist and instead of just putting my content out there to world I hide it until I feel like I'm ready to expose my creative talent. Then I've hidden for so long I feel no one would find the content valuable or they've heard this before why would they want to hear it again from me. This has held me back from creating the life of my dreams. I'm motivated now to stop procrastinating and start doing. Doing what I can do to the best of my ability and then getting better as I go.

@herosjourney and @keciah I hear you ladies and I agree with you. Chasing perfection does eat into your time and leads to procrastination. But that's not what I'm refering to in this post. Don't be perfect. I'm not perfect. In my opinion putting in only enough time and enough effort is not enough. You must put in all your time and all your effort in everything you do every single time. Go all in. Don't hold back. That's not chasing perfection but that's doing justice to yourself. There'll be no point in time where you'll feel like you should've done this longer, you should've done that better. Giving your all all the time leads to no regrets even in failure.

The best attitude to have is all in. 11 days straight posting twice is brilliant. I once read about a blogger in Australia who planned all her posts for a year, rather than just ad-hoc ideas. I think most people starting online with anything don't realise the amount of hard work and consistency required to be a success. I am sure that you will be success as you have the motivation to succeed. Well done.

Planning for a year in advance? That is legendary. That actually is a very productive and time effective way of writing. I'm going to try planning for a month and take it from there.
Thank you so much for the vote of confidence and an inspiring comment.

@solomonsel I've been watching your work the last week (I've only been here about 9 days), and it's amazing, both in quality and quantity. I can see how much work you put into everything you do on Steemit. Personally, I am still finding my voice about what I want to share. So far, it's been mostly photos and more recently an effort to shine a light on the musicians here. Keep up the great work, and I can see you'll be a whale in no time! (Well, not "no time," you know what I mean :) )

You should see the way I'm smiling right now; from ear to ear. It does my heart and ego, lol, a world of good knowing that some few people are actually following my work. It's comments like yours that keep me going I swear. You will find your voice soon. A tip I can give you is DON'T BOX YOURSELF IN. The reason I put out the amount of content that I do, and hope that it's quality, is because I write about things that have always been on my mind. My niche is my life. Do you know how brought of a spectrum that is? I just write from the heart and I always remain honest and true to myself.
Thank you so much for this comment. It has really uplifted my spirit.

@solomonsel I'm so glad! Sometimes our rewards are not financial. I see in passing how you support others, even if you think nobody notices or cares. Keep up the good work!

You are right. Some times the financial reward is just a bonus. Just because of you I will keep up the good fight. Thank you oh so much
