Taming Your Fear

INTRODUCTION

I recently wrote an article about fear and its effect. Fear can be a disastrous entity and as such we need to tame it. Below is the link to a life experience of the effect of fear. This only Promted me to write a remedy or a cure to fear. Practically, the absence of fear is something bad but you shouldnt also be tormented by your fear. Below is a well elaborated tactics to defeat your fear and turn it into a motivation.

Fear is like fire. It can be a good servant but a bad master. Its always difficult to control something that can cause pain or destroy you. But if you are able to handle it, it becomes something great. Imagine how easy it is for someone who prepares poison to poison himself or a gunman to accidentally shoot himself. Using fear as a weapon can drive one to exceedingly great heights but there is a risk of it backfiring on you. As such i thought of ways to remedy the effects of fear and to cast it away. Upon all analysis, the presence of fear indicates lack of hope and faith. In desperation comes fear. Fear drives all hopes away from its victims and to cure that one needs to build up his faith and hopes.

  • Build your faith.

Deuteronomy 31:8 “He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Many at times, when i find myself walking alone at odd places at odd times, the thought of being mobbed and robbed comes into my head. The feeling heightens when i find myself being followed by an unknown person for a short while. I find it intriguing that this feeling of fear flees when i have a company. No matter the age of the one i am moving with. I quite remember carrying a baby from a dark room when i was but a small boy. I was afraid of the dark but because the little baby was with me, i felt safe. The scripture above talks about God's prescence at wherever we find ourselves. God promises never to leave our us or forsake us. And since God is a spirit, his presence is with us wherever we find ourselves. This scripture is true for all who have faith and believeth in God and as such true believers never feel fear. For there is no challenge too great for God.

  • The second antidote that i found for Fear was Mindset.

We are all born the same and we all face the same challenges each day. We can all fall pray to fear but its our mindset that defines whether we will be victims or we will steer it into a weapon. As i was growing up, the fear of me not becoming well to do in future dawned on me so early that i didn't know what to do. I was so much afraid that i wouldn't make enough money to take of my family and loved once that i started investigating how my father got paid. I scrutinized his work trying to see the little i could do to make some cash as a started. I have tried over 17 different ways to make money and I'm just 22 years of age. Most of my peers in Ghana cant boost of working to take care of themselves which i am capable currently thanks to steemit and my photography business. To cut long stories short, mindset about your fear is key to defeating it. My fear has driven me to be proactive and find good Job before i finish college whiles others fear of not becoming rich drives them into becoming alcoholics and other social canker.

  • Another antidote to Fear is Action.

Most people never start an invention or something due to the fear of failure. We all will fail at something but we will never be able to fail if we don't give it a try. Once you give it a try, you also stand a chance of succeeding at it. One thing that drove my fear away was action and activity. Whenever i feel a tinge of fear to do something, i break it in to several parts and tackle it little by little. Once i begin, the thought of fear often flees as if it wasn't there. I was very much afraid of public speaking. The first day that i stood in front of my class to give an announcement, it was as if i had lost my voice. My voice was breaking during the first two lines of the announcement. It was after then that my voice began to settle and i was able to flow freely with the class. If my fear had stopped me from taking action, i would never had overcome it.

  • Confidence is a key to overcoming your fear.

Confident individuals are not as they are because of the absence of fear but rather because they understand it. Confidence will enable you understand and overcome fear. Confidence as a trait needs to be learnt and there are several ways to do so. You need to groom yourself. Make sure you are in a dress or shirt that you feel comfortable and respected in. Think positive and forget about all negative thoughts. Start acting and get your ideas together. That's is a short but sure way to be confident.

fear and faith can never work together, we must starve one and feed the other

Duly said.

Interesting ...

Actually, Fear is a unique feeling. Not easy to hide, not feeling is impossible. We all have different kind of fears which make our life much more unbearable. When I read the title, just smiled a little. Taming a savage creature may easier than taming your own feelings. Yet, once you suppress your fear and try to, the rest becomes easier. My key is that: if you fear, do not even display yourself. Live as if it is not really existing. Sometimes, fear is the path which goes to your achievement. Would better if we try to see the full side of the cup 😌

Wow. great contribution. Some say a problem shared is a problem half solved. Sometiimes keeping your problem enclosed can be a solution itself. Its actually bad for an enemy to realise your fears. It only strengthens them.

An approach that works for me is understanding... I research the stuff I fear, project the outcomes, and then accept the risks involved, this lowers the fear effect by 99%. Another perspective though...

Rightfully said. Sometimes our fear actually doesnt exist. Its all hypothetical. With the right understanding, we develop our mindset to overcome it.

I once read "Trading in the Zone" by Mark Doughlas, He clearly illustrates how understanding and accepting the outcomes of an unknown event can lead you to successful and disciplined decision making purified from fear

Thanks. Its an honour.

Dear @tj4real,

Thank you for sharing your insights and personal experiences overcoming fear.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

Faith is the opposite of fear. When we trust in God knowing that He will perform His Holy Word for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28), we need not fear.

Blessings and shalom, Steven Sherman @lastdays

Good article, thanks for your post!

Amen! This reminds me of 2 of my favorite passages that discuss fear:

Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You."

1st John 4:18 "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."

Praise God! His love casts out all fear! "The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1)

These are great scriptures @benjamin-mercer thank you for sharing them

Your welcome! :)

Interesting post..good work keep it up

Nice 👍🏾. I agree with you here. Something I try to live by is, “do it scared. ”

Speak up, even if your voice shakes. Stand up even if your body trembles.

I’ve heard it gets easier. It’s still not easy for me but I continue to practice using all of the methods you listed.

interesting reading. It is a very particular topic, we are all objects of fear at some point. The important thing is what we achieve from that experience and how we work it within us.

Really good point that while fear can be used as fuel, it's such a volatile one that it's too dangerous to be worth it, kind of like nitro. It's better to find positive motivations. Nice to find your blog.

Fear left unchecked has the power to slow us down.

For me, I've developed a mindset of reframing anything that happens in a positive light. Whenever I feel fear, I tell myself that no matter how it goes it'll be fine.

Even if it falls apart I process it as part of the masterplan.

When you develop such a mindset fear loses it's hold over you.

Confidence is something needed to help push away those fears. My fear is public. Doing something in front of an audience. I thought I used to be scared of heights, but I can still climb down, move around etc. When it comes to people I freeze. That feeling overwhelms my body and takes over. I always think I can get over it and I still try but once I'm there, my mind draws a blank. I can't think, can't move. It doesn't to be an introvert either lol.
Great article here. Resteeming to get more eyes on this ^_^ It could help someone :)

beautiful animated images..

Excelente post, me encanto...

When I see this picture, first, I really amazing and my think back to movies that I still remember is Narnia. Thanks for sharing us @tj4real. God Bless you

Fear has torment, the antidote is Faith but Faith worketh by Love. Let the love of Jesus Christ rule your heart and fear will shrink. Moreover, there is no way you will love Jesus without loving your neighbor, so many tjibgs that brings fear are things that are not perfected in love. Great post. Thank you. I am glad I find my west African neighbor here doing great things. Keep it up
