Motivation: What it is and How to Increase Motivation

in motivation •  4 years ago

Motivation refers to a motivating force for desired outcomes, willingness, and actions. Motivation is derived from the Latin word, motivation, an innate desire that demands satisfaction from our actions. These desires, wants or needs can be generally inherent emotional or acquired via the influence of society, culture, language, or can be developed through conscious cultivation. In most cases, human beings possess a natural drive for motivation; however, in some cases where certain conditions or external factors interfere with this natural drive, then motivation may take on a new meaning and direction.

There are various theories on motivation; these theories are: cognitive theory, sociological theory, cultural theory and the organizational theory. Each of these theories have different underlying assumptions and are used to explain and predict behavior. In addition, the various theories also suggest a variety of possible sources for motivation such as biological, psychological, social and environmental factors. The goal of this article is to explore motivation in the context of organizational context.

According to the Batson model of motivation, people are motivated to do the things that they cannot do by what they think or desire. In the context of organizations, Batson's drive theory can be applied to identify and measure organizational motivation. People within organizations are motivated to perform those functions or tasks that are necessary for performance of specific tasks. In organizations, employees are viewed as motivated when they recognize and take advantage of their opportunities to move up the ladder. Recognition and promotion are some of the rewards that employees receive when they achieve a specific set of organizational objectives.

According to the understanding motivation as a function of understanding and selection, the process of acquiring a goal or object is a crucial aspect of motivation. Thus, it has been suggested that human beings respond to an incentive primarily through the process of understanding. For instance, a child is more motivated to study and learn after he understands the different aspects of the reward and learning processes and how his actions will affect his development in the future.

A major part of the motivation process is the identification of appropriate rewards. Rewards play an important role in motivating an individual to achieve a specific set of goals. Rewards can come in various forms such as monetary, verbal, physical, and non-monetary. Monetary exchange is an easy and popular way to provide incentives to individuals to obtain the desired results. However, other rewards such as recognition, promotions, and high level of responsibility are more difficult to motivate because it is more complex and take longer time to accomplish.

According to emotional theory, motivation is the outcome of the cognitive processes and the experiences of an individual. Motivational theories have been studied extensively over the years to find the root causes of various behavioral problems and to develop new and advanced techniques for the treatment of this disorder. In psychology, it is believed that people are not motivated to follow what they think they should do but rather be guided by the feelings of love, passion, and other strong emotions. These emotions provide a clear pathway towards self-realization.

Many researchers in this field have made important contributions to the field of psychology. Among these are Jean Piaget, Albert Ellis, John Gottman, William Bates, and John Grindler. Most of these researchers have produced different theories in order to explain different behaviors and motivations. The main aim of the different theories in psychology is to provide a scientific explanation for different behaviors and motivations. Different theories in psychology also attempt to provide a universal definition of motivation so that one can easily understand what is motivation all about.

One of the most common methods used to motivate people is by using carrots and sticks as rewards for performing the required behaviors or for accomplishing tasks. Another method that is widely used to motivate people is providing small gifts like candy and/or money when there is success. Another way of increasing motivation levels is providing vacation trips and prizes on achievement. The main aim of using motivation is to increase motivation levels and thereby decrease the number of behavioral and extraneous behaviors that lead to the behavior of becoming unproductive.
