Week 4 of my Infinity War Preparation – 2018 MCU Re-Watch
This oft-maligned chapter of the MCU works surprisingly well as part of a chronological re-watch.
Although the story is mostly standalone there's lots of connections to the wider ongoing story. As well as being a quick origin story, the opening credits show us that Nick Fury is involved in the hunt for the Hulk - and using Stark Industries tech. We also get many references to the Super Soldier program that begun way back in The First Avenger...
The tone is quite different from Thor, or indeed any of the previous films, but a more serious Fugitive/Monster Movie is an interesting addition to the timeline. After all, the MCU is at it's best when it grafts Superhero stories onto other genres.
It's a shame this film gets overlooked and (due to rights issues) we are unlikely to get a solo sequel. Still, it was nice to see a recent MCU film bringing a supporting character back into the fold - maybe we will get a bit more of that in the future.
To Infinity: N/A
Post-Credit Scene: A fun cameo, further hinting at The Avengers. However, for the full story you need to watch 'The Consultant'...
