A Movie to Watch

It was another weekend and I got days off from my work. I decided to again watch a movie in my free time. Like most of us, I am also a busy person that's why I 'd like to share it with you, in the hope that if we have same taste you wouldn't waste 2 to 3 hours watching a movie not worth your time and if it is good then I'm sure glad to recommend a movie that would bring more meaning to your days.

I got a surprise recommendation from my son, he told me that he heard good things about this movie that he would be happy to recommend. It is the first time I heard about the movie but due to his recommendation, I take time to watch it.

The Plot.

The title of the movie is Jojo Rabbit and it is indeed a pleasant surprise. It is one of the saddest comedy I've ever watch. Although, the movie has tragedies and unfortunate events in the backdrop you can't help but smile on how funny but serious the main character is. The movie is set in the latter years of World War II. Jojo Rabbit is the nickname given to Johannes "Jojo" Betzler by other children in the Hitler youth training camp. He is a 10-year-old innocent boy but heavily indoctrinated with the Nazi ideals.

His Nazi idealism is represented by his imaginary friend, a version of Adolf Hitler (played by the Director himself Taika Waititi), who is a supportive and friendly companion to him but as Adolf Hitler, he is as racist and anti-Semitist as it gets.

The movie made a major turn as the boy discovers that his mother actually sheltered or is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. There are many surprising events that can both bring you sadness and elation. I would leave the rest of the details to your imagination as I don't want to spoil the movie when you watch it yourself.

The casts:

Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo, a young German boy who is a member of Hitlerjugend
Thomasin McKenzie as Elsa, a Jewish girl whom Rosie hides in her home

Stephen Merchant as Deertz, a Gestapo agent
Alfie Allen as Finkel, the second-in-command to Captain Klenzendorf
Sam Rockwell as Captain Klenzendorf, an army officer who runs a Hitler Youth camp
Scarlett Johansson as Rosie, Jojo's mother who is secretly anti-Nazi

And my son is right it actually earned recognition by major award-giving bodies:

And there are many, many more nominations which are prestige by itself. The mere consideration by critics speaks volumes for its quality and creativity.

My Verdict:

A good movie to watch. It will bring you delightful surprises, some tragic moments to feel about, happy events you can celebrate and lots more. My rating is 8 out of 10. The quote at the end of the movie is rightly worded as:

“Let everything happen to you
Beauty and terror
Just keep going
No feeling is final”
― Rainer Maria Rilke
