The Wild West

One of Clint Eastwoods best movies as actor and director. It shows the wild west as ruled by those willing to do the dirty work, not always the "just" work.

We have two cowboys out on the town, during the night they cut up a prostitute for laughing at the small size of one of their man hoods. The local sheriff "Little Bill" Daggett passes judgement, and awards compensation of a few horses. The ladies do not consider this to be fair payment for the damages done, so they offer a cash reward for the death of the two cowboys.

A young man "Schofield Kid" hears of the bounty and sets out to recruit help for the job, he finds a retired outlaw Munny. Munny is now a farmer with two children and a wife that has passed away, he isn't the best farmer. So reluctantly agrees to help, Munny recruits an old friend and retired gunfighter Ned Logan.

Another gunfighter has also heard of the reward and rides into the town. The sheriff however isn't willing to have anyone undermine his authority, he sets the law, so captures and beats this man before sending him on his way the next morning as a sign to anyone else thinking about taking the job.

Our trio arrive later, amidst heavy rain and head over to the saloon to meet with the ladies. Munny has a fever and stays at the bar. The sheriff arrives at the saloon and mistakes Munny for being drunk, so only throws him out of the pub for carrying a weapon.

The other two were upstairs with the ladies getting an advance of sorts on their reward, they hear the sheriff and manage to slip out the back without being caught.

A few days later they come across the cowboys and kill one of them, neither Logan or Munny take any pleasure out of it, and Logan decides to quit the job. Munny however is going to see the job through, and then there were two. They find the last cowboy and kill him too, a job is a job and it is now done.

The "Kid" decides that this isn't the life for him and that this will be his first, and last job. They head back into town to collect the cash, one of the ladies meets them on the outskirts where they learn that Logan was arrested by the sheriff and tortured to death. The sheriff now knows that the "drunk farmer" from a few days ago is one of the bounty hunters.

The "Kid" takes the money and rides to Logan's wife and Munny's kids to deliver the money. Munny however, rides into town to deal with the sheriff. The sheriff has a posse ready at the pub to hunt down Munny and the Kid. Munny enters the pub, whereby he manages to kill a few members of the posse, and the sheriff.

Eastwood doesn't glorify or romanticise the wild west. He does give an excellent performance and directs just as well. The cinematography is also done very well.
