The directors own daughter is cast in the leading role of this splatteresque, english speaking, Italian psycho thriller. It must be a peculiar situation to direct a rape scene with your own daughter in it - but i guess they do not take that so seriously. Everything for "art".
Anne is a police detective who suffers from a rare mental disturbance called the Stendhal syndrome. It means she gets disturbed emotionally by looking at certain forms of art. She is on a case about a psychopathic killer that rapes and kills young women and by chance he figures out that she is on his track. She is first captured and raped by him but later she manages to throw him in a waterfall after she has killed him - or at least that is till later she finds out there is no body. Then she and her nearest, become the hunted .. or so we are led to believe.
First of all, there is not a single actor in this movie that is worth squat. Dialog is very amateurishly performed and they sound like they are reading from the script. It was a fatal decision to use such low quality actors in a movie with a fair amount of dialog. At least when the director lets his artistic side run loose, he has a certain touch, that fits the psychological thriller mood very well. But then the long middle part is rather overstretched with scenes, that do not really bring the story forward. For a movie from 1996 (they use mobile phones), it feels very old school and out of time. And then there is a recurring theme in the score, that starts to get on your nerves after an hour or so. Maybe that is on purpose, but it is not those kind of nerves i want to get tingled when i watch a thriller.
If you are a fan of this director i suppose you would want to see this movie but otherwise stay clear of this one. It is below the minimum quality level for the choosy viewer.
