He passed away on new year day however the cause of death has not been confirmed, according to reports in Oregon newspaper Willimate Week.

when the news of his death surfaced, the official facebook account for the show wrote a tribute 'reading rest in peace, john steuer, the first actor to play Alexander in TNG. you will be deeply missed.
