When appreciating masterpieces or art or music, sometimes we can feel the intention of the artists and breathe their feelings. Maybe all the creatures in this world might keep their creator's wills, however, the reason we love and admire masterpieces is the influence of them are magnificent, and this is what makes them 'masterpieces'.
Someone says it's lucky to face good piece of art at the right place and right moment, and I think I felt I was watching the proper movie which I had needed most when watching 『Flipped』.
『Flipped』 is a movie about the love and growth of July, a girl whose color changes like the rainbow, and Brice, a boy who has bright eyes. At first sight, the movies seems like a common romance movie, but while watching it, we can listen to more stories about people who have lost 'something' and other people who keep and cultivate 'something'. That 'something', in other words, divide people by 'who are more than the sum of parts' and 'who are less than the sum of parts', and it's expressed by a symbol, the 'tree'.
The fig tree, on which July often climbed to see the whole city not just the part, gets cut by the citizens and the city, and July has hard time to get over the fact. At the dinner time with Brice's family, Brice's father mentions about the tree and insists most people didn't want that tree.
Of course he often played his saxophone in a band when he was young, but now he denies his past and despises the brothers of July who are in a rock band. Now he belongs to 'the people who dislike the fig tree'. But according to his wife who's proud of him playing in a band before, maybe this guy had some tree he loves long time ago.
To conclude, after having conflicts, love between July and Brice comes to fruition when Brice comes to July's house and plants a new fig tree. July's tree has now begun to root on the ground of Brice and July.
Since watching the movie, I've often thought of the image of 'trees', and 'something' the 'trees' indicate.
