Upon further research - and this doesn't surprise me - my revolver is almost identical to the one Alec Baldwin fired that killed Halyna Hutchins. Really, the differences are mostly cosmetic. My gun is an actual .45 Long Colt single-action revolver while the gun Baldwin was using was a replica made to be an exact copy of my gun.
I'm telling everybody right now that if there's any truth to Baldwin's claim that the gun discharged without him pulling the trigger and that he was just resetting the hammer after rehearsing the shot it's about a one in ten million fluke.
When you load a .45 Long Colt you open a chamber in the back and place the hammer at a half cock. That does two things: 1) It allows the cylinder to rotate freely so that each chamber can be loaded and 2) It shifts the alignment so the firing pin won't strike a bullet accidentally during loading. Still, in order to return the hammer from half cocked to a secure placement you need to keep pressure on the hammer while you pull the trigger and carefully return the hammer into position. It's entirely possible that making a mistake with the hammer at half cock could cause the gun to discharge; but, you need to pull the trigger.
What's more likely is that the gun was at full cock in firing position. Again, if you cock the gun and decide not to fire you still need to pull the trigger in order to put the hammer back into a safe position.
Even if the gun somehow malfunctioned Baldwin is doing himself no favors by claiming that he was resetting the gun after rehearsing aiming and cocking the gun. If your finger slips off of the hammer while you're attempting to take it out of firing position the gun could go off because you are pulling the trigger in order to get the gun to do that. There is no good reason why that gun should have been pointed anywhere near anybody if he were resetting the hammer after a rehearsal.
