So, how do you presumably end a franchise that's been around for forty years?

Well, there's no completely satisfying way to do it. Bringing in David Gordon Green again was the right decision. I think Green did about as well as one could reasonably expect. The cast was strong.

The thing that bugs me is that I think that there was a real masterpiece underneath the surface here. There was a legitimately challenging story about how an otherwise good person could be made into a monster that just took a back seat to the paint-by-numbers story.

I think that it's a movie whose reach exceeded its grasp. I will give it points for daring to reach; but, it needed to go all in. It didn't go all in.
