Panther enjoyed the top position for a whole five consecutive weekends, crowning it the first feature since the 'Avatar' of 2009 to achieve that feat.
It was only fitting and poetic that it passed the baton to another Hollywood blockbuster shouldered by a black lead.

Uprising grossed $28 million in its FSS domestic opening and has bowed to $122.5 million internationally.
China was said to be a huge reason for the Pac Rim sequel getting greenlit as the original outperformed there than in the United States.
This latest entry in the nascent franchise looks to be repeating that pattern and hopefully, Boyega won't be too dark for the Chinese to see since this time, seeing as he's going to be in an automaton and all.
